About the Project

The Bristol Transport Project is a collaborative research initiative exploring how transport connectivity affects everyday life, opportunity, and inclusion across the city. The project is led by researchers from the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England (UWE), working in partnership with community groups, residents, and local associations. Our team brings together academics, residents, and local organisers committed to co-producing meaningful, actionable insights.

Funded through UKRI Research England’s research culture stream, the project investigates where transport works well, where it breaks down, and how communities experience those gaps. We are especially interested in how issues of transport access intersect with housing, health, education, and social and cultural life.

Throughout this site, you will find updates from our research process, reflections from community engagement, preliminary findings, and details of upcoming events including our citywide Town Hall. We aim to make the work accessible, inclusive, and grounded in the lived realities of people across Bristol.

How You Can Get Involved

We welcome collaboration from across the city. If you live in Bristol and rely on public transport – or if you work in transport, planning, or local government – we would love to hear from you. You can:

  • Join our April Town Hall
  • Share your experiences with transport access via our upcoming community Survey
  • Attend our June policy symposium
  • Reach out directly if you have ideas or insights to share: grp-bristoltransportproject@groups.bristol.ac.uk

This project is not just about analysis – it is about action. Together, we can build a transport system that works for all of Bristol.
